Confidientiality, Data Protection and GDPR

All medical information is confidential. At Woodside Medical Practice, we are aware of the importance of medical confidentiality, meaning that information cannot be given to friends and/or family members without your prior consent.

You do have the right to see your medical records within certain guidelines; this service is usually free of charge. Please ask us for a Subject Access Request Form to complete this action, if required. Any payable fees will be discussed with you before actioning the request.

In most situations, we will need your written consent to disclose any information to a third party. There are certain exceptions to this, such as if you are referred to another health care professional or if the law requires us to release the data, for example, with notification of certain infectious diseases or safeguarding issues.

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulations and will supersede the Data Protection Act. It will not only apply to the UK but also to the European Union and its member states. It provides guidance and legislation on how UK and EU citizen information is processed.
